Many years ago, when I started working at a local resort,I met another young woman who was also just starting work in the accounting department at this resort. She was (is) just adorable. At the time she was preparing to get married to the love of her life. You know the sort of people who are just so loving and sweet that it makes your teeth hurt, that is this couple - only it is true and sincere and goes from the top of their heads to the tips of their toes.
Not long after enjoying the first stages of young married life, they welcomed a beautiful baby boy in to their lives. Mercy oh my soul, this boy was so stinkin' cute he took your breath away. Early on he had those cheeks that you just want to gobble up! There was a twinkle in his eyes...like you just knew that trouble was afoot, but he was so cute he would get away with it (this is coming from a Gigi who believes that what happens at Gigi's house, stays at Gigi's house, and little grandson's can do no wrong!). Life was good for this sweet little family of 3.
And then...the unimaginable.
Suddenly, and without any warning Mason was called home to be with Jesus - before his first birthday.
This was not supposed to happen. The saying is true...parents are not supposed to bury their children.
Those of us who were on the outside watched, with broken hearts, these young parents walk through grief with grace, love and mercy. Even now as I think about that time, I am amazing at the fact that they cared about those around them in the midst of this life altering event. God was everywhere they were, and they made certain that all who looked in knew this as well. It is a strong heart who can say they love and trust God with everything, and in the midst of the worst nightmare a parent an imagine, they live out those words by placing it all at the feet of their Lord.
One of the big things they wanted people to know is that LOVE is everything. This is Mason's message - to love EVERYDAY. There were wrist bands at his life celebration that noted this philosophy. The dress code for his celebration was happy, bright and Hawaiian...it screamed The Happiness (little Mason's nickname). Hearts became one of the symbols and reminders to Love Every Day.
Mason's parents wanted to find a way to give back, and boy have they. They have started the Love Every Day Project here in Tucson. You can read all about it and donate HERE.
These are people who make me want to be a better person...I hope you will take the time to read about this amazing project and donate if you can. More than anything, i hope you remember to Love Evey Day and make the world a better place starting right in your own circle of the world.
