Today we had the honor and blessing of attending a Celebration of Life service held by the hospice that PJ spent his final days. That place became our home away from home for 12 days. It was at a beautiful church here in town, one that I had never seen other than in passing. There was music by members of one of our local founding families (the Ronstadts), reading of all the names of those in their care who had passed on between March & June (over 500), and candles lit by each of us there to represent our loved ones and the release of doves as a trio sang "I'll Fly Away". It was truly beautiful.
I didn't want to go, but I'm so glad I did.
That's right, I didn't want to go. It feels like the final formal goodbye. To top it off, today was the day we got his legacy letter stating what had been accomplished in the first month of his whole body donation. So many things his donation is helping with, and it was his desire for that...no matter what the research. Simply put...today has just been hard. The days have been hard. The less busy I am, the harder they become...and that is ok, it can't be avoided and needs to be processed. More will come - and that's ok too.
Yet, I wonder if the day will come I don't touch things he touched looking for echoes of his fingerprints?
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort." 2 Corinthians 1:3
