I'm infatuated with old bottles. I don't know what it is about them, perhaps my imagination just loves dreaming about what they used to hold; about the woman who used the flavoring/extract inside; or the baby who took the cough tonic it held. No matter, I love them. In our small group we have a wonderful gentleman who has allowed me to bring some of his collection into my home. I enjoy listening to the history he has to share(shhh...I'm smitten like a kitten with him).
These bottles were all dug up and we're all made in the late 1800s. The Burnett bottle (left) held some sort of flavoring and the Wakelee's bottle (middle) was a beauty serum. They all have a beautiful opalescent shimmer created from the chemical reaction of the dirt and the magnesium in the glass.
